Terriers Come Away with Hard Fought Win in Thriller

Deland, FL – After a near five-hour match, the Wofford women's tennis team won in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon against Stetson, winning both the doubles point and the deciding singles point on a tiebreaker to give them the 4-3 victory.

The Terriers fell behind in doubles play after dropping the first match, but the team of Kay Kluska and Lilie Steryous won the second match 6-4 to make it all even. Liz Massie and Jenna Vroman were the last to finish doubles competition as they earned a hard-fought win 7-6, which gave Wofford the doubles point.

Jenna Vroman wasn't done there as she won more convincingly in singles play, 6-4 and 6-2. The Terriers and Hatters went back-and-forth the entire match as neither team could pull away. Brittney Wilbur put Wofford back in front with a 3-set win, winning the final set 6-2. With Stetson tying the match at 3-3, it came down to freshman Georgia Fischer vs. senior Lucie Renault. The two split the first two sets to bring it down to an all dramatic third set. The freshman came up clutch for her team as Fischer saved match point in the tiebreaker and went on to win the set 9-7 and clinched the win for Wofford.

"I am extremely proud of the fight of the team today. It was a little stressful at the end, but I'm so excited for the girls and the way they competed", said coach Krissy Hall. "They played hard in every game and bounced back when they faced adversity. It was definitely a thriller of a match and I'm glad we came out on top."
