Football Travels To North Carolina For Season Finale

THE NORTH CAROLINA GAME
Wofford will play the final game of the season on Saturday at noon against the University of North Carolina... The Terriers are 1-9 on the season and 0-8 in Southern Conference play after a 24-22 road win at Elon, a 31-10 loss at home to #24 Kennesaw State, a 31-23 road loss to #22 VMI, a 27-21 loss on the road to #13 East Tennessee State, a 42-20 home loss to Furman, a 27-24 loss to Samford, a 45-14 loss at Mercer, a 41-21 loss to Western Carolina, a 35-10 loss to #25 Chattanooga and a 45-44 overtime loss at The Citadel last Saturday afternoon ... Wofford was winless in Southern Conference games for the first time in school history ... The last time the Terriers were 1-9 to begin a season was in 1987 in which they were 1-10 at the end of the year ... Wofford has lost nine straight games for the first time since the last eight games of 1930 and the first game of the 1931 season; the team has never lost ten straight ... North Carolina is 5-5 on the season and 3-4 in ACC play ... They have wins over Georgia State, Virginia, Duke, Miami and Wake Forest, along with losses to Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh ... Despite both schools playing football for over 125 yards, this will be the first meeting between the two schools.

TERRIER TOP NOTES
Here are the top notes of interest heading into the North Carolina game:
    • The Terriers have seen 31 players earn first career starts this fall and a total of 52 players have started games.
    • Only two players have started all ten games this season - RB Irvin Mulligan and LB Joe Beckett. Only 29 players have seen action in all ten games.
    • Wofford is ranked 86th in the nation in total offense and 112th in total defense through nine games.
    • The rushing offense was ranked fifth overall at 232.8  yards per game in the spring. Wofford has been ranked in the top ten in rushing offense for 22 straight seasons but are 13th so far in 2021 at 208.6 yards per game.
    • The Terriers are being outscored in all four quarters. In the second quarter the Terriers are being outscored 141-80.
    • Four players were recognized by the coaches on Preseason All-SoCon team. First team honors went to DL Micheal Mason and OL Zak Kurz. OL Al Hogan and RB Nathan Walker picked up second team honors.

ABOUT WOFFORD
At quarterback, Peyton Derrick has started six games, with Jimmy Weirick starting one, Bryce Corriston with two starts and Kyle Pinnix with a start ... Weirick is 21-of-38 passing for 234 yards along with two rushing touchdowns, while Derrick is 40-of-77 with seven passing touchdowns and 193 rushing yards ... Bryce Corriston has 129 rushing yards and 18-of-41 passing for 179 yards, with Kyle Pinnix picking up 58 yards on 20 carries and 3-of-9 passing for 30 yards ... Irvin Mulligan is the leading rusher with 854 yards on 124 carries and eight touchdowns ... Jamari Broussard has 261 rushing yards on 67 carries with a touchdown, with Nathan Walker and Ryan Ingram adding rushing touchdowns ... The top receiver is Alec Holt with 20 catches for 427 yards and five touchdowns ... Jim Welsh has added 16 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown, while R.J. Khayo has 15 catches for 178 yards ... The offensive line has seen nine players start, with none starting the same position for all ten games ... They rank 7th in the nation in fewest sacks allowed with ten ... Linebacker Joe Beckett (72) is the team leader in tackles and he has 4.0 tackles for loss ... Micheal Mason has four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, while Rett Russell has four tackles for loss and a sack ... Chuck Smith has added two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss ... Isaiah Wadsworth and Amir Annoor have the two interceptions for the team ... Walker Gliarmis handles the placekicking duties and is 8-of-12 on field goals with a long of 48 yards ... Atkins Roberts has kicked off 43 times for a 54.9 average and has a 38.6 average on his 49 punts.

SERIES NOTES
Despite the Terriers playing in the first football game in the state of South Carolina (1889) and the Tar Heels playing the first game in the state of North Carolina (1888), the teams have never played ... North Carolina was an original member of the Southern Conference (1921-1953) before joining the ACC ... Wofford head coach Josh Conklin faced UNC three times as defensive coordinator at Pitt and was 0-3.

CONNECTIONS
Wofford kicker Walker Gliarmis' father, Lee, was a kicker for North Carolina ... The Terriers have 12 players from Tarheel state,  which is the third-largest representation on the roster behind South Carolina (48) and Georgia (20).

AGAINST THE ACC
The ACC was formed in 1953 when seven schools left the Southern Conference. The Terriers first game against an ACC school was in 1953 against then-member South Carolina (0-49, L). Here is Wofford's record against current members of the ACC:

HOW OPPONENTS ARE DOING
The ten opponents that Wofford has faced this season are a combined 57-42 on the season. Three of the teams were ranked on game day against the Terriers, as Kennesaw State (9-1) was #24, VMI (6-4) was #22 and East Tennessee State (9-1) was #13. It marked the first time Wofford has faced three straight ranked opponents since the 2017 season. Chattanooga (6-4) was receiving votes when the game was played and Mercer (7-2) also is above .500 this season. Elon (5-5), Furman (5-5), Samford (4-6), Western Carolina (3-7) and The Citadel (2-5) are currently at or below .500. Overall, Wofford has the22nd toughest schedule in the country (and toughest in the SoCon) as of the latest NCAA report on November 14.

COACH JOSH CONKLIN SHOW
Wofford Sports Properties, the multimedia rights partner for Wofford College Athletics, has announced the return of the Coach Josh Conklin Show. The show is part of an expanded selection of coaches shows that began in the spring. The shows, sponsored by R.J. Rockers, are hosted by the voice of the Terriers, Jim Noble. The Josh Conklin Show begins in September and will debut every Monday during the football season. The first episodes of the Jimmy Garrity (women's basketball) and Jay McAuley (men's basketball) will debut in late December. Fans can listen to the "Wofford Terriers Coaches Show" podcast in a variety of ways, including on the iTunes, Amazon, Google and Spotify podcast platforms, along with www.woffordterriers.com/podcast.
