SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team was able to grab their first win of the season, on their home court, defeating Gardner-Webb 6-1. This marks the first win for the Terriers over the Runnin' Bulldogs since 2016-17, also a win at Reeves Tennis Center.
Wofford made it a clean sweep in doubles competition.
Omar Williams and
Bryce Keim won 6-2, while the pairing of
Ashe Ray and
Will Fullett won 6-4. The duo of
Diego Losada and
Javi Casasolas wrapped up the doubles play with a 6-4 win as well.
Ray carried over his energy and momentum into his singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win as he put the second point on the board for Wofford. Gardner-Webb got a point at the #5 spot, but it was all Terriers after that. Keim, Losada, and freshman
Alex Horn all won in two sets, while Williams took it to three. Down after one, Williams came all the way back to pick up the win and give the Terriers the 6-1 victory.
"That was huge for us. We played a lot of good players and good matches, and I'm proud of what we accomplished today", said head coach
Rod Ray. "Our energy was there in both doubles and singles, and we rallied around each other throughout the whole match."
