Football Visits Chattanooga On Saturday

THE CHATTANOOGA GAME
Wofford makes the first road trip of the 2020-21 season on Saturday with a visit to Chattanooga ... The Terriers opened the season with a 31-14 win over Mercer on February 20 ... Wofford was 8-4 overall and was 7-1 in the Southern Conference last season ... Wofford won the outright SoCon Championship and earned the automatic bid, marking the seventh league title in school history ... It was the first time the Terriers have won back-to-back-to-back league championships ... Wofford reached the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the fourth-straight season ... The Terriers are one of just seven teams to make the last three playoff fields ... Chattanooga enters the spring with an 0-1 record from the fall and had their opener against VMI postponed ... Last season in Spartanburg the Terriers picked up a 35-34 win in overtime over the Mocs ... Wofford is ranked 11th in the STATS FCS 2020 poll and 17th in the final FCS Coaches poll of 2019, while Chattanooga is receiving votes in the STATS FCS poll.

Here are the top notes of interest heading into the Chattanooga game:
    • Wofford won the 2019 Southern Conference Championship, the seventh overall and first time winning back-to-back-to-back.
    • Last season was the tenth playoff appearance for Wofford, with a 9-10 mark in the postseason.
    • The Terriers were third in the nation with 305.8 rushing yards per game.
    • Wofford was 20th in the nation in total defense and 35th in the nation in total offense.

With the graduation of 2019 SoCon Player of the Year Joe Newman, the Terrier will be looking for a new starter at quarterback ...  Jimmy Weirick and Peyton Derrick both played in three games last season ... Jacquez Allen is the leading returning rusher with 52 carries for 528 yards and four touchdowns, while Nathan Walker had 81 carries for 460 yards and five touchdowns ... The top two receivers from last season return, as D'mauriae VanCleave had 23 catches for 362 yards and three touchdowns, while T.J. Luther has added 19 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns ... The offensive line looks to replace all five starters from last season ... Linebackers Joe Beckett and John Beckley are the top two returning tacklers with 50 and 46 tackles, respectively ... Micheal Mason led the team with 10.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks ...  Brandon Brown is the lone returner who had an interception last season and Darron Paschal had six pass break-ups ... The Terriers will have a new kicker this season, with Dawson Henis taking over for Luke Carter.
