GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team traveled to Greensboro for a Friday evening tilt in which the Terriers and Spartans took things to overtime, the second straight overtime game for Wofford, but neither could find a hero as the game ended 0-0. Wofford and UNCG both take their SoCon records to 1-1-1.
Wofford goalkeeper
Maria Mon had to be on her toes early as UNCG had an early attempt that was saved by Mon. A free kick for the Spartans later would have Mon come up with another save, pushing this one out for a corner.
Lucy Johnson took the first shot for the Terriers, but it didn't end up on target. A few more shots were fired before
Rachel Rasins put the first one on net for the black and gold, but a fine save out of the Spartans goalkeeper kept it scoreless at halftime.
UNCG came out quick again in the second half as Mon had to save one just a minute into the second frame. Wofford's
Eva Dailey put a shot on net, but nothing that found the back of the net. The Terriers really poured on the pressure late in the half, but the score would remain the same as the two squads headed to overtime.
Addie Marlett had the only shot on goal in the first overtime just five minutes in and she had another in the second extra period, but both goalies stood tall and granted their teams a tie.
Wofford outshot UNCG 16-14, with a 7-4 edge in shots on goals. Both teams had an equal opportunity in corner kicks with 7, and
Maria Mon collected her second clean sheet of the season with four saves.
