SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In a battle of 8-4 teams, the Wofford women's tennis team scored their second conference win of the year with a convincing 5-2 victory over the Chattanooga Mocs. The Terriers are now 9-4 (2-1 SoCon) on the year, and the Mocs go to 8-5 (1-1 SoCon).
After dropping the first point in their match, the top pairing of
Jenna Vroman and
Lilie Steryous stormed back to win six out of the next seven to win the match 6-2. The third Wofford pairing of
Kay Kluska and
Brittney Wilbur had a reverse result, as they went up 1-0 but fell 6-2.
Liz Massie and
Georgia Fischer were also downed by the same score as the Mocs took a 1-0 lead in the match.
Wilbur bounced back from her doubles defeat to win at the #6 position, 6-1, 6-2, to tie the match 1-1. Steryous remained in top form as she gave the Terriers the lead with a 6-2, 6-1 victory, but Massie was defeated in her singles match as Chattanooga tied it back up.
Georgia Fischer took her match in straight sets as she won 6-2, 6-0, and Vroman gave Wofford the match with a pair of 6-4 wins to get the fourth and deciding point.
Emely Kahrs put the cherry on top with a 6-4, 6-3 win to give the Terriers the 5-2 victory.
