SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In their second conference match of the season, the Wofford men's tennis team took on the Mercer Bears in a grueling match that came down to the wire, only to see Mercer get the win, 4-3.
It was a strong start for Wofford in doubles play as
Javi Casasolas and
Callum Rendle took an early lead and never looked back, going on to win 6-3. The usual pairing of
Omar Williams and
Bryce Keim also went up quickly, but Mercer was able to come back and win on a tiebreaker, 7-6. The Bears took the doubles points after winning on court #3 as well.
Mercer got a quick point to go up 2-0 in the match, but
Will Fullett played outstanding with a 6-1, 6-2 win to put a point on the board for the Terriers. Keim showed off his hard work as he made the match score level with a 7-6, 6-2 victory at the #4 position. As the Bears took a 3-2 lead, Williams played a long 3-set match in which he came out victorious winning, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. It came down to court #2 where Rendle and his opponent also went three sets. Each took a set until Mercer's Lucas Wayenburg took the final to give the Bears the win.
