BIRMINGHAM, AL. – The Wofford women's tennis team's season wrapped up on Friday afternoon at the Southern Conference Semifinals as the Terriers fell to the ETSU Bucs, 4-0. Wofford was able to stay close or have an early lead in most matches, but ETSU had their number down the stretch and took four points to clinch a spot in the finals.
The Terriers played well in doubles competition, giving ETSU all they could handle in the three pairings.
Ansley Hardeman and
Liz Massie were defeated at position #2 by a 1-6 score, but Wofford's top duo of
Jenna Vroman and
Lilie Steryous picked them up with a 6-4 win. The third matchup featured the senior pairing of
Kay Kluska and
Brittney Wilbur, who took an early 3-1 advantage. However, ETSU came back and rattled off five straight to win the match and the doubles point.
Wofford was unable to mount any sort of comeback during singles play. Steryous had an early lead going up 2-1 in her first set, but fell behind late and was downed 3-6, 0-6. Vroman played a close first set in her #1 position as she scored late, but couldn't grab the win falling 4-6, 3-6.
Georgia Fischer played at #4 for Wofford and took an early lead, but once again ETSU came back and won the fourth and deciding point, 4-6, 0-6. Massie was able to pick up a win in her first set 7-5 as her match went unfinished along with
Emely Kahrs and
Brittney Wilbur. The freshman Kahrs went up 2-1 in the first set before falling 4-6, and Wilbur was in an early hole and couldn't climb out as she lost set one 2-6.
