Blue Hose Golden Goal Halts Men's Soccer Comeback

Terriers fall in extra minutes at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team made a resilient effort in forcing extra minutes upon a 70th-minute equalizer at Presbyterian on Tuesday night, though, the Blue Hose would unfortunately find the answer in the 93rd minute to lift Presbyterian to a 2-1 victory and snap Wofford's two-game win streak at Martin Stadium in Clinton, S.C.

The loss drops Wofford to 2-3 overall on the season, as PC moves to 4-1-1.

Freshman Christoffer Saietz led the team with his first career goal, while senior Mitchell Myers added an assist and logged four shots, including two on goal.

Will Pucek also recorded a shot on goal, while Amin Mohammedi, Meade Fowler and Magnus Kjoller all registered shots in the match.

The first half was relatively quiet for Wofford, rarely able to find any chances for shots, while possessing two corner kicks through the opening 45 minutes of play. The Terriers kept the aggression on the defensive end, however, not allowing any shots on goal for PC, though, the Blue Hose would manage to fire four off-target shots in the first half.

The Blue Hose opened the second frame on the attack after a free kick off a Wofford foul allowed for another Presbyterian shot in the 47th minute that would be timely blocked by the Terriers' defense. Mitchell Myers finally gave the Terriers its first look of the night in the 61st minute, sending a shot bottom left, though, PC's Aidan Montoure was in position for the save.

Presbyterian then broke the silence moments later on the counter, as PC's Connor Hudson found Nacho Gallego for a shot that would find the bottom left of the goal for the 1-0 advantage. Myers would fire another shot that would go blocked prior to Amin Mohammedi logging a shot in the 68th minute that went off target. A costly PC yellow card then set up the equalizer for Wofford, as Myers fed freshman Christoffer Saietz for a shot that beat the Blue Hose's keeper bottom-center to knot the score at 1-all in the 70th minute.

The Terriers started to build off the momentum, seeing Myers' activity persist with a pair of shots that were again blocked and saved shortly after Saitz's score. Presbyterian began to pick up its pace, finding itself in Wofford's half with several corner opportunities, though, the Terriers held tough on their own end, blocking a shot in the 81st before Joshua Old made a crucial save on an on-target look in the 83rd minute. With regulation winding down, Meade Fowler let go a shot in the final minute that would go blocked before Magnus Kjoller corraled a last-minute desperation shot that was off the mark to send the match into extra minutes.

Moments after extra minutes kicked off, Will Pucek nearly found the answer for Wofford on a shot top-left that Montoure would unfortunately corral in the 90th minute. PC then worked the ball up the field into Wofford's end for a corner in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, the Blue Hose would capitalize on the opportunity, setting up the game-winning goal off a Cesar Sancho shot bottom-left that met the back of the net to grant the Blue Hose the 2-1 victory.

Presbyterian finished the match with the advantage in shots, 11-9, and corner kicks, 5-3.

Wofford (2-3) returns to its home pitch on Saturday, September 18, hosting its first Southern Conference matchup against the VMI Keydets for a 1 p.m. start at Snyder Field.
