SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Upstate Invitational on Saturday morning at Milliken Park. The women were fourth overall and the men were ninth overall.
In the women's 5K race,
Alexus Atkins was 13
th overall in 18:48.7, followed by
Mary Claire Ridgeway in 15
th place at 18:58.7.
Carolyne Shealy (19:27.9),
Chloe Gilbert (19:34.7) and
Camille Terracina (19:43.7) completed the scorers.
Ava Fowler (19:54.2),
Franny Tocco (20:37.0) and
Gabby Gecan (21:48.6) also finished for the Terriers.
The men's 8K competition followed and
Carson Archie was the top Terrier to finish in 26:03.5 for 29
th place.
Demir Degirmenci (27:15.5),
James Moon (28:31.9),
Patrick Daly (29:11.5),
Emmett O'Neill (29:30.2) and
James Blackwelder (30:53.9) rounded out the Wofford finishers.
Overall, Mercer was first in the women's race with 48 points, followed by Appalachian State (75), Western Carolina (80) and Wofford (118). The men's race was won by Appalachian State with 30 points, with UNC Asheville (60), Mercer (64), Western Carolina (144) and USC Upstate (151) rounding out the top five.
The teams will next compete at the 2022 Southern Conference Championship to be held on Sunday, October 30, in Charleston, South Carolina.
