MILL SPRING, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Tryon Western NC Cross Country Showcase at the Tryon International Cross Country Course on Friday evening. The women were sixth and the men were tenth overall in the meet.
The women's 5K race was held first, and
Ava Dennis was 15
th overall with a personal best time of 18:38.3 to lead the Terriers.
Madison Sledge was the next Terrier to finish at 19:20.6 for a personal best, followed by
Madeline Smith (20:01.7),
Sarah Turner (20.23.9/personal best),
Kristen Hallman (20:56.7),
Taylor Battle (20:58.6),
Avah Mallek (21:09.6/personal best), and
Jordyn Battle (21:32.7).
The men's 8K competition followed, and
Liam Jones was the top Terrier finisher with a time of 26:59.2.
Aydan Layton was next for Wofford in 29:06.1 for a personal best, with Aidan Sellers (29:18.0/personal best),
Fate Hall (30:23.0/personal best), Ethan Schaefer (30:35.7), and Chap Wilbanks (31:00.3/personal best) rounding out the finishers.
Overall, Tennessee Tech was first in the women's race of 10 teams with 56 points, followed by Furman, North Greenville, VMI and Western Carolina. The men's race of 14 teams saw Furman and Western Carolina tied for first with 38 points each, and Furman winning on the tiebreaker. West Georgia, Tennessee Tech, and Montreat rounded out the top five.
Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Friday, October 9, at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte.
