SPARTANBURG S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team dropped the final match of the regular season to the No. 11 ranked UNCG Spartans 1-2 at Snyder Field Saturday night. The Terriers' record drops to 6-8-2 (2-2-1 SoCon).
UNCG opened the scoring in the 25th minute after Ismail El Harchi netted a goal off a pass from Marco Afonso.
Nikolai Rojel had an opportunity to tie the match a minute later, but his header sailed over the top of the net. The Spartans out-shot Wofford 4-1 in the opening half, as they held on to their 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Spartans doubled their lead at the 56:55-minute mark after Maycol Reyes scored a goal, giving UNCG a 2-0 advantage.
The Terriers responded in the 65th minute off a goal from
Jakob Anderson, with assists from Rojel and
Jackson Wrobel, cutting UNCG's lead to one with 25 minutes remaining.
Wofford couldn't break past the Spartan defense in the closing minutes, with both sides not recording a shot in the final 18 minutes of the match, as UNCG held on for the win.
