SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over South Carolina State Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers took the doubles point and then won four of the six singles matches.
The Wofford doubles team of
Ashe Ray and
Alex Horn won a 6-3 match at the #2 position, with
Mark Endler and
Will Fullett also winning 6-3 at the #3 position to clinch the point.
Bryce Keim and
Callum Rendle were up 5-4 when the point was clinched and did not finish.
In singles action,
Will Fullett earned a 6-4, 6-1 win at the #6 position and
Alex Horn added a 6-4, 6-1 win at the #4 position for a 3-0 lead in the match. The Bulldogs took a point at the #4 singles, but the Terriers clinched with a 6-2, 6-1 win by
Callum Rendle at the #2 position.
Ashe Ray had a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win at #1 singles. To compete the match,
Robert Young fell in a third set tiebreaker at the #5 position by a 6-4, 4-6 (10-7) score.
"We beat a good team this afternoon," said head coach
Rod Ray. "There were countless moments where we displayed toughness. I'm proud of our team."
It was the first loss of the season for the Bulldogs (2-1). Wofford (3-7) remains at home for a match next Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. against the College of Charleston.
