Terriers finished strong with three goals in the fourth

DURHAM, N.C. – The Wofford women's lacrosse team embarked on its first road test of the season at No. 8 Duke on Thursday afternoon, falling 20-4 to the nationally-ranked Blue Devils at Koskinen Stadium. Freshman Carley Irvin and sophomore Shadan Bankston posted career days, tallying three of the Terriers' four goals in the fourth quarter, as Wofford drops to 1-1 on the early season.

Irvin, a midfielder from Newtown, Pa., recorded a career-high two goals on four shots-on-goal, including a free-position goal, and two ground balls, while Bankston, an attack from Leander, Texas, notched her first Wofford goal on the first shot of her career later in the fourth quarter.

Senior Elisabeth Ralph added a goal, while Ally Furnari and Emma Krasinski each recorded assists to cap Wofford's point-getters for the contest.

Defensively, senior Abbi Pagano led the way with a career-high three caused turnovers and one ground ball, followed by junior Leah Hurley and freshman Kirsten Flannigan with two caused turnovers apiece, while Flannigan also scooped up two ground balls.

Sophomore Addison Witkowski forced a turnover in addition to scooping two ground balls, as Krasinki and Shannon Wulff each picked up a ground ball.

Aislinn Washburn tallied eight saves in the loss, while freshman Ella Smithers stepped in the crease for her Wofford debut with two saves on five shots faced in the final 15 minutes. Smithers also added two ground balls.

Wofford finished the contest with 10 saves to the Blue Devils' four, though, Duke amassed a 43-12 shot advantage and 19-14 ground-ball margin for the afternoon.

Duke controlled possession for a majority of the game, finishing with a 19-7 differential in the draw circle. Emma Krasinski and Kirsten Flannigan led with two draw controls apiece, while Ally Furnari, Elisabeth Ralph and Leah Hurley contributed the other five.
