NASHVILLE, Tenn. – To wrap up a weekend road trip in Nashville, the Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Vanderbilt. The Commodores, ranked #21 in the nation, won the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches.
In doubles, the Commodores earned wins at the #1 and #3 positions to clinch the point. The #2 doubles team of
Emma Sorensen and
Lily Woods earned a 6-3 win.
During singles action, the Commodores picked up wins at the #5 and #3 positions. At #1 singles,
Lily Woods won the first set 6-4 over Anna Ross, who is ranked #43 in the nation, and earned the point after Ross retired.
At #2 singles,
Liz Massie faced Anessa Lee who is ranked #92 in the nation and was defeated 6-1, 6-3.
Brianna Wilbur played at #4 singles and lost a close 6-3, 6-4 match. The #6 singles match saw
Emely Kahrs drop the first set in a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker before falling 6-4 in the second set.
Wofford (4-5) will be back at home on Sunday, March 6, as they host Radford at 2:00 p.m. The Commodores are now 7-1 on the season.
