MACON, Ga. – Freshman Mark Endler secured a 4-3 win for the Wofford College men's tennis team over Mercer on Sunday afternoon when he won his #3 singles match at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center. The Terriers swept the doubles point and split the singles matches with the Bears for the win.
 
In doubles play, the Wofford pairing of Bryce Keim and Callum Rendle took the #1 position with a 6-3 win. Mark Endler and Will Fullett then won at the #2 position with a 7-6 score to clinch the point. At #3 doubles, Ashe Ray and Robert Young added a 7-6 win to complete the sweep.
 
The Terriers opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #4 position by Robert Young and followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win by Will Fullett at the #6 position for a 3-0 lead in the match. The Bears responded with wins at #5 and #2 singles in straight sets. At #1 singles, Ashe Ray was defeated 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 which tied the match at 3-3. Mark Endler at #3 singles won the first set 7-6 and lost the second set 6-1. In the third set, he won 6-3 to win the individual match and clinch the team win as well.
 
"I'm really proud of our guys," said head coach Rod Ray. "Going on the road and gutting out a tough 4-3 win against a good team shows how much it meant to us. The way we battled in doubles was awesome. We knew it was going to be close and Mark showed tremendous courage to get the win."
 
It was the first road win for the Terriers at Mercer (5-9, 0-1) since the Bears joined the SoCon in 2014. Wofford (5-9, 1-1) will return home on Wednesday at p.m. for a match against Fairfield.
