SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Tuesday afternoon the Wofford College women's tennis team defeated Fairfield 6-1 at Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers swept the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches to earn the victory.
 
Doubles play began with Breda Brennan and Brianna Wilbur wining 6-2 at the #3 position. Lily Woods and Georgia Fischer then won at #1 doubles by a 6-2 score to secure the doubles point. Liz Massie and Lilie Steryous added a 6-3 win at #2 doubles to earn the sweep.
 
In singles, Liz Massi had a 6-3, 6-4 win at the #3 position and Georgia Fischer added a 6-4, 6-2 win at the #5 position. At #4 singles, Brianna Wilbur had a 6-4, 6-2 win to clinch the match for the Terriers. Lilie Steryous picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at #2 singles. After a loss at #1 singles, Wofford closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles by Emely Kahrs.
 
"I was extremely impressed with how well we competed in both singles and doubles against a very talented Fairfield team," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We gained momentum with solid doubles play and battled hard on each court in singles. I am very proud of our team!"
 
Wofford (6-6, 0-1) returns to Southern Conference play on Saturday, March 19 at Chattanooga. Fairfield is 4-7 on the season and have not begun MAAC play.
