SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Chattanooga in a Southern Conference contest at the Reeves Tennis Center that began on Friday and was completed on Saturday. The Mocs won the doubles point on a tiebreaker and then won four of the six singles matches in the contest.
In the closely contested doubles play,
Mark Endler and
Will Fullett picked up a 6-4 win at the #2 position. The Mocs answered with a 6-4 win at #3 doubles and then clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the #1 position.
The Mocs opened singles play with a win at the #6 position, which was the only singles match to be completed before the match was suspended due to rain. At the time of suspension, Wofford had won the first set in three of the remaining five matches.
When the match resumed on Saturday afternoon, the Mocs won at the #3 and #2 singles positions to clinch the match. At # 5 singles,
Alex Horn won the first set 7-6 (7-3) and lost the second set before falling 10-4 in the third set tiebreaker.
Robert Young earned a 7-5, 7-5 win at #4 singles to earn a point for the Terriers. At #1 singles,
Ashe Ray won the first set 6-4 and lost the second set. In the third set tiebreaker, Ray fell behind 7-4 before scoring six straight points to take it 10-7 for the win.
Wofford (6-10, 1-2) remains at home for a match on Sunday against Davidson at 2:00 p.m., which will be the final non-conference match of the season. The Mocs are 4-11 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play.
