SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In the final non-conference match of the season, the Wofford College men's tennis team used strong singles play in the middle of the line-up en route to a 5-2 win over Davidson. The Terriers opened play on Saturday at the Reeves Tennis Center by winning the doubles point and added four wins in singles to defeat the Wildcats.
 
The sunny and windy afternoon began with Alex Horn and Ashe Ray taking the #3 doubles position by a 6-2 score. The Wildcats answered with a 6-3 win at the #1 position. Mark Endler and Will Fullett were up 3-0 at the #2 doubles position, but the Wildcats responded for a 4-3 lead. The Terriers took the next three games for the 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Callum Rendle quickly dispatched his opponent the # 2 position by a 6-1, 6-0 score. The Wildcats got on the board with a win at #1 singles, but the Terriers claimed a point at #4 singles as Mark Endler won 6-4, 6-4. Playing #3 singles for the first times this season, Robert Young lost the first set 6-2, but responded by winning 6-2 and 6-1 to secure the win for the Terriers. Alex Horn lost the first set 7-5 at #5 singles before taking the second set 6-3 and winning the third 6-4 to claim the point. At #6 singles, Bryce Keim dropped the first set 7-5 and tied the match with a 6-3 win before falling in the third set 6-2.
 
"We played well against a gritty team," said head coach Rod Ray. "We've played a lot of competitive tennis this week and we had to dig deep to get this one. It was a close match and I'm thrilled with how we played tough when it counted most. I'm very proud of our team's effort."
 
Wofford (7-10, 1-2) returns to Southern Conference play on Friday, March 25, against UNC Greensboro at 3:00 p.m. The Wildcats are 5-7 overall and have not begun Atlantic 10 play.
