Men’s Tennis Sweeps The Citadel 7-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team swept The Citadel by a 7-0 score on Sunday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers swept the doubles matches and then won all six singles matches to secure the Southern Conference win.
 
At the #3 doubles position, Ashe Ray and Alex Horn took a 6-1 match. Callum Rendle and Robert Young were down 3-2 at the #2 position but responded to take the match 6-4 to clinch the point. Mark Endler and Will Fullett picked up a 6-3 win at the #1 position to sweep doubles.
 
In singles action, Mark Endler took a 6-2, 6-0 win at the #4 position. Callum Rendle finished next with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the#2 position and a 6-0, 6-1 win at #3 singles by Robert Young clinched the match for the Terriers. Alex Horn then added a 6-2, 6-2 win at #6 singles. At #5 singles, Will Fullett won the first set 6-4 and then took the second set 7-6 (8-6) in a tiebreaker. Ashe Ray won the first set at #1 singles 7-5. After dropping the second set, Ray won the third set tiebreaker 10-6 to complete the singles sweep for Wofford.
 
"Heart and enthusiasm go along way and today we had both," said head coach Rod Ray. "I'm impressed with how our guys sunk their teeth into today's match to get the win. We anticipated a tough match and rose to the occasion."
 
Wofford (9-11, 3-3) will play at Furman on Friday, April 15, to end the regular season. The Bulldogs are 6-22 overall and 0-5 in league play. The Terriers have now won 15 straight matches against the Bulldogs, dating back to 2007. The Southern Conference Tournament will begin on April 21 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
 
Prior to the match, senior Bryce Keim was honored. He has appeared in 30 singles matches and 54 doubles matches over his career at Wofford. Keim has 28 career doubles wins at the #1 and #2 positions, including eight this season at #1 with Callum Rendle. Bryce has been named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and will graduate in May with a degree in studio art.
