Late Rally Falls Short for Men’s Soccer Against Upstate

SPARTANBURG S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team fell to USC Upstate 2-4 at Snyder Field Saturday night. Trailing 0-3 with under ten minutes remaining, the Terriers netted back-to-back goals to get within one, but ultimately fell short to the Spartans.
 
Upstate notched its first goal of the game at the 13:03 mark after Peyton Pressley found the back of the net, giving the Spartans an early 1-0 advantage.
 
Both sides were relatively quiet the rest of the half until Upstate struck again with forty seconds left in the half, this time from Jeremy Montero, extending the lead to 2-0 at the half.
 
The Spartans scored once again in the opening minutes of the second half, extending the lead to three over the Terriers.
 
After most of the offensive chances fell flat for Wofford for most of the match, the Terriers finally broke through at the 81:23-minute mark when Nikolai Rojel netted the first goal of the game for Wofford, cutting the lead down to 3-1 with just over eight minutes left to play.
 
Exactly four minutes later, Wofford notched another goal, with Oscar Billman netting his first career goal off a pass from Erik Nikolaisen, bringing the Terriers within one with four and a half minutes remaining.
 
Upstate sealed the win at the 87th minute with one final goal, putting the lead back to two with three minutes left in the match.
 
The loss drops Wofford's record to 2-5 on the season.
