THE FURMAN GAME
For the second straight year, Wofford will end the season against Furman ... The two teams played the first football game in South Carolina in 1889 and have met 96 times ... Last season the Paladins won 63-28 in Greenville, but the series is tied at 5-5 in the last ten meetings ... Wofford enters the game coming off their first win of the year, an 11-3 victory at The Citadel ... The Terriers are 1-9 overall and 1-6 in SoCon play ... Prior to the win, the Terrier had lost nine straight games to open the season - a 45-7 loss at Pittsburgh, a 23-6 loss to #4 William & Mary,  a 23-20 home loss to Presbyterian, a 17-14 loss at VMI,  a 23-13 loss to #22 Chattanooga, a 31-10 loss to Samford, a 41-10 loss at ETSU,  a 31-17 road loss at Mercer and a 28-25 loss to #16 Western Carolina ... Furman is 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the Southern Conference, which included a win over VMI last weekend to claim the outright Southern Conference championship ... The Paladins are 56th in the nation in total offense (365.4) and 42nd in total defense (336.8) ... They are ranked second int he nation in both the STATS Perform FCS poll and the FCS Coaches poll ... Wofford has faced a team ranked second in the nation five times and are 1-4 in those games. Furman was ranked #2 in the 2004 meeting (Furman 31, Wofford 24).

Here are the top notes of interest heading into the game against The Furman ...
    • Prior to the game, Wofford will honor 24 seniors playing in their last home contest at Gibbs Stadium.
    • The Wofford defense has nine interceptions this season - fourth in the SoCon - four more than last season.
    • Shawn Watson was named head coach on December 1, 2022 after the Terriers posted a 3-3 record with Watson as interim head coach.
    • Wofford returns 14 starters overall, including five on offense, seven on defense and two specialists.  
    • Two players were named to the All-Southern Conference preseason second team - DL Chuck Smith and OL Jason Swann.    
    • In the national rankings, the Terriers are 67th in total defense (370.9) and 117th in total offense (254.8) this season.

ABOUT WOFFORD
In the first full season under head coach Shawn Watson, the Terriers are 1-9 overall. On offense, the offensive line has seen eight different players start games. Center Anthony Garcia the lone player to play all ten games at the same position. The pro spread offense usually sees three receivers, one tight end and one running back in most formations. Alec Holt leads the receivers with 20 catches and a touchdown, followed by Rickie Shaw with 12 catches and David Legette and Kyle Pinnix with eleven each. Devin Mathews has nine catches for 90 yards to lead the tight ends. Ryan Ingram has 137 carries for 726 yards and five touchdowns at running back, while J.T Smith has 57 carries for 274 yards. Bryce Corriston has started five games at quarterback and is 37-of-67 for 366 yards and two touchdowns. Pauly Seeley has started the other five contests and is 91-of-165 for 910 yards.
    The defense remains a 3-4 base, with the defensive line led by usual starters C.J. Tillman, Brandon Maina and Chuck Smith. Maina leads the team with 4.0 sacks and eight quarterback hurries. The linebackers feature David Powers, who has a team-high 96 tackles, along with Eli Purcell with 61 tackles and a team-best 5.5 tackles for loss. In the secondary, John Michael DiRoberto is second on the team with 62 tackles and an interception, Damien Curtis has three interceptions and Maximus Pulley has two, with Amir Annoor leading the team with seven pass break-ups.
    Bridger Jones handles placekicking and is 11-of-15 on field goals, along with a 61.9 average on kickoffs. Atkins Roberts (39.5 yards per punt) and Devery Cagle handle punting, with Tommy DiLiegro and Blake Shirley sharing long snapping duties.

SENIOR'S LAST LAP
The Furman game will mark the final regular season home contest for 24 Wofford seniors. The group includes two fifth year seniors: Tayvian Gass and Devin Mathews. There are also 22 true seniors. They are: Trey Baker, Wyatt Bartkowiak, John Boyles, Bryce Corriston, John Michael DiRoberto, Dillon Droze, Anthony Garcia, Alec Holt, Ryan Ingram, Briggs Kearse, Jacob Kimbrell, Anthonie Lattany, David Legette, Harrison Morgan, David Powers, Atkins Roberts, Chuck Smith, Jason Swann, C.J. Tillman, Garrett Vernon, Isaiah Wadsworth, and Cameron Woolery.

HITTING THE ROAD EARLY
Wofford was on the road for three of the first four games of the season, which were also the three longest road trips in 2023. These round trips totaled 2,444 miles with Pittsburgh (1026), William & Mary (808), and  VMI (610). The remaining three road trips are just 1,094 miles total to ETSU (254), Mercer (436)and The Citadel (404).

SCORIGAMI
The origin of "Scorigami" is from Jon Bois: host of Chart Party. Simply put, Scroigami is the art of finishing games with scores that have never been seen before. Wofford's 11-3 win over The Citadel on November 11 was the first game to end in that score for the Terriers. The last NCAA team that won a game by scoring 11 points was Mississippi State in 2002 against Troy (11-8). Wofford is also the first team to win a game by an 11-3 score since 1982 (Notre Dame 11, Michigan State 3). There have been only two NFL games ever end in an 11-3 score (Detroit 11, Bears 3/October 28, 1962 and Vikings 11, Packers 3/September 30, 1973).

IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Among the NCAA FCS leaders, Bridger Jones is 33rd in field goal percentage (73.3%) and 31st in field goals per game ... Damien Curtis is ranked 28th in interceptions per game (0.3) ... Atkins Roberts is 51st in punting with a 39.5 average ... Ryan Ingram is 41st in yards per carry (5.30) and 27th in rushing yards per game (80.7) ... David Powers is 19th in the nation in total tackles (9.6 per game) ... John Michael DiRoberto, Harrison Morgan and Maximus Pulley are tied for 12th with 2 fumble recoveries.
