Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Tyler Zaubi

Wofford Rally Falls Just Short Against Canisius

Laval, Quebec, Canada- Down as many as 27 points in its opening game of the Northern Classic, Wofford men's basketball very nearly completed the comeback bid in a 67-76 loss to the Canisius Golden Griffins.

Following the free throw that put Canisius up by 27 points at the 12:50 mark in the second half, Wofford embarked on a 43-20 run over the next 12:28 to slash the Golden Griffin to just four points with 22 seconds remaining. Leading that run was junior Dillon Bailey who scored 14 of his game leading 20 points in that span- including the three-pointer that cut the Golden Griffin lead to just four points with 22 seconds remaining.

Sophomore Chase Cormier added 12 of his new career-high 17 points during the run as well- making the guard the only Terrier to score in double figures in all five games this season.

However, it wasn't just the offense that found its rhythm, the defense held Canisius without a field goal for the final 7:24 minutes of the game- part of a larger drought that saw the Golden Griffins connect just once in their final ten field goal attempts and turn the ball over six times.

Canisius would convert five of their six free throw attempts following Bailey's three to seal the game at 76-67 in favor of the Golden Griffins and dropping the Terriers to 2-3 on the season.

Wofford will continue its Northern Classic slate of games with a matchup with UNC Asheville. Wofford has not seen the Bulldogs since December 15, 2018, when the Terriers shot 13-for-24 from the perimeter to defeat the Bulldogs 92-49.
