SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On a cloudy Saturday morning, the Wofford College men's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Emmanuel College. The Terriers won the doubles point and picked up victories in five of the six singles matches.
"A match like today is important," said head coach
Rod Ray. "We were challenged and we pulled through. There were several instances where we needed grit and we found it. We got better today."
In doubles action,
Will Fullett and
Ian Rasheed picked up a 6-2 win at the #2 position. The #1 pairing of
Callum Rendle and
Max Graham had a 7-5 win to clinch the point. The #3 doubles match with
Ashe Ray and
Robbie Young was unfinished with them trailing 5-3.
At #5 singles,
Alex Horn took little time to secure a 6-2, 6-2 win. The Lions won at the #1 singles position, but
Will Fullett picked up a 7-6 (15-13), 6-2 win at the #5 position. The match was clinched by the Terriers with a 6-3, 6-3 win at #2 singles by
Callum Rendle.
Robbie Young added a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 victory at the #3 position and Mac Graham closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #56 singles.
Wofford (2-3) postponed the second half of the scheduled doubleheader against Mars Hill due to rain in the forecast. That match will now be played on Saturday, February 18. Wofford will host Gardner-Webb on Monday, February 13 at Reeves Tennis Center at 2:30 p.m.
