CLINTON, S.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team traveled to Presbyterian College on Saturday afternoon and earned a 7-0 sweep at the Templeton Tennis Courts. The Terriers won the doubles point by taking two of the three matches and then won all six doubles matches, three of which were decided in the third set.
In doubles, the Wofford team of
Breda Brennan and
Emma Sorensen earned a 6-0 win at the #2 position.
Catherine Blouin and
Brianna Wilbur secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at the #3 position. position 6-0. At the #1 doubles position, the Blue Hose earned a 7-6 win with a 7-4 tiebreaker.
Wofford got off to a quick start in singles with a win at the #3 position by Briana Wilbur (6-3, 6-2) and a 6-2, 6-1 win at the #5 position by
Emely Kahrs.
Georgia Fischer then clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the #4 singles position. At #1 singles,
Lily Woods dropped the first set 0-6, but rallied 6-4 and 6-1 for the win.
Catherine Blouin then won the third set tiebreaker by a 10-7 score to win at #6 singles. The sweep was secured with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win by
Breda Brennan at #2 singles.
"We showed great resiliency and courage today," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "This match should give us a lot of confidence moving forward. I am just so proud of how well we competed as a team!"
The Terriers (5-4) return home on Sunday to host Appalachian State at noon.
