SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Southern Conference announced its postseason awards on Wednesday, March 1. Senior
B.J. Mack was named to the first team on both the media and coaches' ballots. Freshman
Jackson Paveletzke was named Freshman of the Year by the coaches and media. Paveletzke was also named to the media's All-Conference third team, making him the first freshman to do that since Fletcher Magee in 2016.
B.J. Mack was named to the first team in the conference. Mack earned that by leading the conference in scoring in conference play with 17.2 points per game. Mack averaged 16.6 points per game over the course of the season and added 5.4 rebounds. Mack also shot 50.7% from the field and 35.9% from three. Mack added an impressive 79.6% from the free throw line as well. Last season Mack was named to the conferences second team and made the preseason all-conference team before this season.
"All the work that B.J. has done, not only to his body but to his game affects the way he impacts the game," said interim head coach
Dwight Perry. "He can score, distribute and rebound. I think he's done a much better job defensively this year, taking that part of his game to another level. Obviously, we feel like he's one of the five best players in the league so it was much deserved for him to be recognized in that way."
Jackson Paveletzke was named the Freshman of the Year in the Southern Conference. Paveletzke scored 14.9 points per game and his 3.8 assists per game led Wofford. Nationally among freshmen Paveletzke ranked 8
th in points per game, 11
th in assists, and second in free throw percentage while attempting the fifth most free throws by a freshman. Paveletzke also led the Southern Conference freshman in all of those stats.
At 14.9 points, Paveletzke led freshman in scoring in the Southern Conference and was also 15
th in the conference overall. Paveletzke was fourth in the conference in assists with 3.6 per game which led the Terriers. Paveletzke did all of this while playing the tenth most minutes in the conference. He becomes just the fourth Terrier to be named as Freshman of the Year, joining Ian Chadwick, Karl Cochran and Fletcher Magee.
"He was extremely important to our team," said Perry. "Jackson is a guy that impacts the game at a really high level at the point guard position on both ends of the floor. There's a lot of hard work that he's put in this year so it was good to see him recognized in that light."
Mack, Paveletzke and the rest of the Terriers are preparing to head to Asheville where they will take on UNC Greensboro in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament on Saturday, March 4, at 8:30 p.m. at Harrah's Cherokee Center. Wofford took the Spartans to overtime in their last matchup on February 12 in Greensboro.
