SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Sunday, the Wofford men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Samford at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Bulldogs took two of the three doubles matches for the point and then won all six singles matches, three of which were decided in three sets.
In doubles, Samford had a 6-3 win at the #2 position before a lightning delay. Play resumed after an hour and the Bulldogs claimed a 6-4 win at the #1 position to claim the doubles point. Wofford's pairing of
Ashe Ray and
Max Graham were down 3-4 at #3 doubles, but rallied for a 6-4 win.
To open singles play, Wofford and Samford each won the first set in three of the matches. The Bulldogs picked up straight set wins at the #5 and #1 positions and then added a win at the #3 position in three sets to clinch the match. At #6 singles,
Ian Rasheed won the first set but dropped the second and third sets.
Alex Horn won the first set at #4 singles before falling in the second and third sets. At #2 singles,
Robbie Young was down 4-1 in the first set before coming back to tie it at 6-6. Samford won the tiebreaker 7-5 and then won the second set as well to complete the sweep of the match.
Wofford (5-12, 1-3) will play at Chattanooga on Sunday, April 2 before returning home for the final two matches of the regular season. The Bulldogs are now 8-8 overall and 3-1 in SoCon play.
