SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Wofford women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Furman at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Paladins won two of the three doubles matches for the point and added wins in four of the six singles matches.
In doubles action, Wofford's pairing of
Emely Kahrs and
Brianna Wilbur earned a 6-3 win at the #3 position. Furman answered with a 6-1 win at #2 doubles. At #1 doubles,
Georgia Fischer and
Lily Woods had a 4-3 lead over Furman, however the Paladins responded by winning the next three games for a 6-4 win to claim the doubles point.
Furman took the first singles match at the #6 position. They added wins at #4 and #1 singles in straight sets to clinch the match. After the Paladins had a win at #5 singles,
Brianna Wilbur was able to earn a point for the Terriers with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 at the #3 position. At the #2 singles position,
Breda Brennan won the first set 7-6 by taking the tiebreaker 7-5. In the second set, Brennan trailed 4-1 before cutting the lead to 5-4. She then won three straight games to win the set 7-5 and take the match.
The Terriers (10-8, 1-3) will play their next two matches on the road before returning home for the final regular season match on Friday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m. against Western Carolina. Furman is now 6-10 overall and 3-0 in league play.
