ELON, N.C. – On Sunday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Elon University at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Phoenix won the doubles point with two wins and then claimed five of the six singles matches.
In doubles play, Elon had a 6-1 win at the #1 position and a 6-3 win at the #3 position to claim the point.
Will Fullett and
Ian Rasheed were leading 5-4 at #2 doubles, but the match was unfinished.
During singles action, the Phoenix had straight set wins at #6, #3 and #5 positions to secure the victory. They added wins at #1 and #2 singles. At the #4 position,
Will Fullett won the first set 6-1, but dropped the second set 6-3. In the third set, Fullett was able to win the match by a 6-3 score.
Wofford (4-7) will return home on Tuesday, March 7, for a home match against Campbell at 2:30 p.m. After road matches at Davidson and North Carolina, they will begin SoCon play on Tuesday, March 14 against East Tennessee State at the Reeves Tennis Center.
