CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In the quarterfinals of the 2023 Southern Conference Tournament, the Wofford men's tennis team was defeated by Mercer at the Champions Club in Chattanooga. The Bears, who were the #2 seed, advanced by winning the doubles point and then three singles matches for the 4-1 win.
In doubles, the Bears had a 6-3 win at the #3 position and a 6-3 win at the #2 position to clinch the point. At the #1 position,
Will Fullett and
Ian Rasheed held a 5-3 lead when the match was unfinished.
Will Fullett started singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the # 4 position. The Bears then completed straight set wins at the #5, #2 and #1 positions to clinch the match. In the two unfinished matches,
Ian Rasheed was in the third set at the #6 position after splitting the first two sets and
Robbie Young dropped the first set 7-5 at the #3 position.
The match ended the season for Wofford (5-16), while Mercer is 11-12 overall and advance to face #3 seed East Tennessee State in the semifinals.
