SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team had four student-athletes named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The four receiving the honors for Wofford were
Breda Brennan,
Georgia Fischer,
Brianna Wilbur, and
Lily Woods.
Brennan, a sophomore from Limerick, Ireland, played in all 23 matches this season for the Terriers. She was named to the All-Southern Conference second team at the #2 position and also was the recipient of the league's Sportsmanship Award. An ITA Scholar-Athlete and a member of the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, she has a 3.86 grade point average in finance.
Fischer, a senior from Brentwood, Tennessee, saw action in all 23 matches for Wofford on the season. For her career she had a 35-26 record in singles and a 29-26 mark in doubles. She has been named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll and SoCon Spring All-Academic Team, along with ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. A double major in German and government, she has a 3.92 grade point average and was selected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Wilbur, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, was named All-Southern Conference second team at the #3 singles position. She played in all 23 matches on the season and led the team with a 16-7 record in singles. Her 12-11 record in doubles also led the team. She has been named to the Southern Conference Spring All-Academic Team and the SoCon Academic Honor Roll, as well as being an ITA Scholar-Athlete. A Biology and English double major, she has a 3.91 grade point average.
Woods, a sophomore from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, played in all 23 matches this season. Last year she was named All-Southern Conference second team along with All-Freshman Team honors. She has been named o the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll as well as receiving ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. She has a 3.57 grade point average as a business economics major.
Wofford tied for the lead in the Southern Conference with four honorees, while Furman (4), East Tennessee State (4), Mercer (2), Chattanooga (2) and Western Carolina (1) also had student-athletes recognized.
Academic All-District nominees must have at least a 3.30 grade point average. All honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected at the end of May.
