Spartanburg, S.C- Wofford men's soccer drew on Tuesday, September 12, with UNC Asheville in a game that saw six total yellow cards handed out and several scoring opportunities for the Terriers.
Wofford's first chance came in the 2nd minute of the game as sophomore
Jakob Andersson's shot deflected off the hand of the UNCA defender and a penalty kick was awarded.
Nikolai Rojel, the team leader in goals scored, fired his shot off the left post and now sits at 1-for-2 on the season.
Rojel would have another chance to put the Terriers ahead in the 27th minute but could not put his shot past Bulldog goalkeeper Charlie Farrar. Fellow sophomore
Sam Diebold saw his shot for the game's first goal saved as well in the 39th minute and was the last scoring threat the Terriers put forward in the opening half.
A save from senior goalkeeper
Cameron Victor in the 45th minute ensured the match would go into the intermission a scoreless draw.
The match's first attack out of the break saw the first goal of the game and UNCA's Stewart Patnaud scored his first goal off the season for a 1-0 lead. The Bulldog offense nearly used a flurry of subsequent offense to double their lead, but a save from Victor and two neutralized corners kept the margin at only a goal.
What followed was a string of five consecutive corner kicks from the Terriers in the 52nd through the 56th minute started by junior Nick Parker's first shot on goal of the season that was saved out of bounds for the corner. Three corners later
Thaddeus Dennis' shot was deflected out of bounds for a fourth corner that resulted in a fifth for Wofford. However, none of those set pieces could produce the tying goal.
Another corner from the Terriers in the 59th minute also failed to produce a goal but the finally in the 66th minute and the Terriers seventh corner of the half, junior
Magnus Kjoller scored his first goal of the season off the assist from
Jakob Andersson and the game began anew. The Terriers finished the match with ten corner kicks- eight of which came in the second half.
From the 69th minute on emotions ran hot from both teams- yellow cards were shown to UNC Asheville's Pablo Obrador and Charlie Farrar in the 69th and 74th minutes and then a card was shown to Wofford freshman
Fabian Menendez in the 79th minute.
Bulldog goal scorer Patnaud was shown a card in the 83rd minute and lastly senior
Thaddeus Dennis would be shown a card. In between bookings Wofford had two opportunities for the go-ahead goal. Junior
