BOONE, N.C. – On Friday morning the Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State. The women were seventh and the men were 13th overall in the meet.
The women's 5K race was held first, with
Becca Hinds the top Wofford finisher at 19:11.51 for 48
th place.
Alexus Atkins (19:19.37) was 50
th overall, followed by
Kimber Keene (19:39.62),
Chloe Gilbert (19:54.29), and
Franny Tocco (20:27.88) to round out the scorers.
Ava Fowler (20:43.78),
Morgan Roberts (21:08.51), and
Kristen Hallman (21:14.65) also finished for the Terriers.
The men's 8K competition followed and
Carson Archie was the top Terrier to finish in 27:14.80 for 74
th place. Freshman
Liam Jones was next at 28:04.09, with
Brendan Roper (28:45.21),
James Moon (28:47.79) and Nathan Hopkins (29:06.11) also scoring.
Jack Tillman (29:20.66),
John Bolinger (29:40.11),
Dillon Shin (30:07.94),
Will Berger (30:29.41),
Ethan Hearn (30:38.30) and
James Blackwelder (30:57.78) completed the course as well.
Overall, Wake Forest was first in the women's race of 14 teams with 23 points, followed by Florida State, Radford, Appalachian State and Tennessee Tech. The men's race of 13 teams was won by Florida State with 22 points, with Appalachian State, UNC Asheville, Radford and Montreat rounding out the top five.
Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Saturday, September 30, at the adidas Invitational hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.
