Spartanburg, S.C.- A bevy of opportunities for the Wofford Men's Soccer team failed to produce a decisive strike in their 0-0 draw against Queens (NC) on Tuesday, September 19.
From the opening whistle Wofford pressed the attack and was rewarded for their aggression with a bounty of scoring opportunities. Within the first ten minutes of the match, the Terriers accrued two corner kicks, two shots and a shot on goal to just one off target shot for the Royals.
In the second ten minutes of action the Wofford offense showed no signs of slowing. Another corner kick and two more shots on goal were ultimately unsuccessful in producing the match's first strike however. In the 22nd minute Queens challenged senior goalkeeper
Cameron Victor with their only shot on goal of the half and the keeper converted his nineteenth save of the season to keep the Royals off the scoreboard.
Wofford would earn two more corners in the half that were neutralized and in the closing stages of the half, juniors
Magnus Kjoller and
Nic Parker attempted to put the Terriers on top but were denied by the Queens keeper and the match reached intermission a scoreless draw.
The second half featured much of the same control from the Terriers, who held the ball for two-thirds of the match yet were denied time and time again. Senior
Thaddeus Dennis was turned away in the 51st minute, junior
Hugo Moldin in the 76th minute, and then Kjoller again in the 78th minute. Wofford would get three more shots off in the final eleven minutes of action but none of those shorts were on target.
Cameron Victor converted save number twenty on the year in the 72nd minute with his only other save opportunity for the match.
With the draw, Wofford men's soccer set a new season high in draws and moves to 1-2-4. Up next for the Terriers is a quick road trip up to Virginia to play the Longwood Lancers on Saturday, September 23. Kick off is scheduled for 3 PM and is being streamed on ESPN+.
