SAPPHIRE, N.C. – The Wofford men's golf team competed in Western Carolina's JT Poston Invitational, wrapping up play Tuesday in eighth place with a team score of 855, 3-over par. The Terriers were led by fifth-year senior 
Matthew Larkin, who scored 5-under at 208 at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley, a par-71, 7,007-yard course en route to tying for sixth place.
 
Wofford stumbled out of the gates with an opening round 294, but the Terriers rebounded nicely in round two later that day with a 278. A final round 283 secured a total score of 855 at 3-over par, placing the Terriers in eighth among the 16 teams. Wofford finished three spots ahead of the host Catamounts, who wrapped up in 11
th with a score of 863. Drexel earned the team title at 13-under with a score of 839, six strokes ahead of second-place Elon.
 
The Terriers owned the fifth-best average score on par 4s in the event at 4.10. Wofford's 51 birdies tied with Abilene Christian for fifth most in the field.
 
Fifth-year player 
Matthew Larkin led the way for Wofford, though like his team, he had to overcome an early stumble. Larkin carded a 74 in the first round, but he bounced back in impressive fashion to finish the day with a round two score of 66. He carried that momentum into round three, concluding the event with a 68 to finish with a 5-under 208, tying for sixth place in the 100-player field. Larkin improved 14 positions in the final round to secure his eighth-career top 10. He recorded 12 birdies to tie for the team lead and notched 36 pars, tying for sixth most in the event field.
 
ETSU individual Remi Chartier earned low medalist honors with a 14-under 199 score, including a pair of 65 rounds. He finished four strokes ahead of Xavier's Carson Bellish in second.
 
Ben Jordan was second on the squad and tied for 42
nd in the field with a 217 score at 4-over. Despite carding 71 and 78 in the first day's two rounds, Jordan righted the ship with a career-low 68 in the final round to propel the sophomore up 40 spots on the leaderboard. Jordan recorded 12 birdies to tie Larkin for the team's lead, and he added the team's only eagle.
 
Freshman 
Glover Amick tied for 59
th with a score of 219. He shot 72-72-75. 
Harry Jones placed in a tie for 64
th with scores of 77-71-72 for a total of 220. 
Max Cranford (79-69-78) scored 226 to finish 90
th, rounding out the Wofford lineup.
 
The Terriers return to action next month at the USF Invitational in Brooksville, Florida. The event hosted by the namesake Bulls is another two-day affair running from Monday, October 9, to Tuesday, October 10.
