Johnson City, TN- Senior goalkeeper
Cameron Victor's number was called several times in the second half of Wofford men's soccer's Southern Conference opening 0-0 draw against ETSU.
Victor successfully warded off a shot from the Buccaneers in the 65
th minute and then neutralized ETSU set pieces in the 75th, 79th and 81st minutes. Four saves tie a season high for the senior and lowers his season goals against average to a mere one per game- a pace that would be the best mark for a Wofford keeper since Joe Wichmann in 2014.
Wofford's best chance to score on the night came off the rebound of their own set piece. Junior
Magnus Kjoller earned a free kick for the Terriers in the 68th minute that was initially successfully defended by the Buccaneers but rebounded straight to the feet of freshman
Villads Landsperg. The freshman fired the shot but missed just left of the goal, resulting in a goal kick for ETSU.
The flurry of drama came after a first half in which neither team could register a shot on goal and saw only five total shots and three corners.
In earning the point, the Terriers completed their first lossless month since October of 1994 by going 2-0-4. Wofford also remains undefeated in Southern Conference openers under Head Coach
Joel Tyson. The Terriers return to their non-conference slate of games on Tuesday, October 3, when they travel to Clinton, South Carolina to take on the Presbyterian Hose before returning home on Saturday, October 7, and their next SoCon matchup against the Mercer Bears. The match against Mercer will be streamed on ESPN+.
