Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Tyler Zaubi

Filewich Seals Men's Basketball Win Over ETSU

Spartanburg, SC – Junior Kyler Filewich came up with two big plays in Wofford men's basketball's 75-73 win over ETSU- first collecting the rebound on a missed ETSU free throw with eight seconds left and immediately calling the timeout, and then blocking Quimari Peterson's attempt to send the game to overtime as the clock expired.

Wofford's two-point win capped a game that featured 10 ties and 16 lead changes (neither team led by more than five the entire contest). ETSU appeared to take control of the game late, using a 14-6 run over the course of five minutes and 36 seconds to lead 71-67 with 2:26 remaining before junior Jackson Sivills knocked down a three-pointer with the chance to convert a four-point play. Sivills was unable to convert the free-throw attempt, but Filewich grabbed the offensive board and found an open Sivills who knocked down another three ball to give the Terriers a two-point lead in a matter of 11 seconds.

Junior Dillon Bailey converted a critical driving layup attempt with 26 seconds remaining to give Wofford a three-point lead and put the team in a position to make ETSU have to rely on making free throws to claw back into the game, something it was ultimately unable to do.

Bailey finished the game as Wofford's leading scorer with 13 points (eight of those coming in the second half). Bailey has now led the Terriers in scoring for consecutive games, and six times in total this season. Kyler Filewich ended a two-game drought of grabbing fewer than ten boards- finishing his night with 12 boards (raised his season average to 9.7/game).

With the win, Wofford improved to 4-1 in the conference and continues to match its best SoCon start since the 2020-21 season (started 6-1) going into a weekend showdown with the UNCG Spartans- the first meeting between the schools since former Terrier BJ Mack defeated UNCG at the buzzer in the SoCon Tournament. Tip off from the Greensboro Coliseum is slated for 4 PM on Saturday, January 20, and can be seen on ESPN+.
