THE WESTERN CAROLINA GAME
Wofford will visit Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon for the first road SoCon game of the season ... The Terriers are 2-2 entering the game, following road victories over Gardner-Webb (21-20) and #14 Richmond (26-19), along with home losses to #13 William & Mary (28-21) and #12 Mercer (22-3)... Wofford and Western Carolina have met 45 times, with the series beginning in 1952 ... Western Carolina has won the last three meetings, including a 28-25 victory in 2023 in Spartanburg ... Western Carolina was 7-4 overall last season and 5-3 in the Southern Conference to finish fourth ... So far this season they are 1-3 overall, with a win over Elon and losses to N.C. State, Campbell and Montana ... The Catamounts and Terriers are both receiving votes in the FCS Coaches poll.

NO SPECTATORS
Due to Jackson County, North Carolina's continued State of Emergency, Western Carolina University and Wofford will play without spectators. There are still rescue and recovery efforts happening around the region and the NC Department of Transportation has requested everyone in the area keep roads clear for emergency and disaster relief vehicles to get to the hardest hit areas. Western Carolina and Wofford are also sensitive to the impact this storm has had in our local community and the scarcity of resources in Jackson County, including water, food, electricity, and fuel, and do not want to take away those much-needed resources to host a typical game-day experience.

ABOUT WOFFORD
Shawn Watson is entering his second full season as head coach of the Terriers. On offense, the offensive line features returning starters Quincy Hughes, Anthony Garcia and Briggs Kearse. Luke Moise and Mason Howard will be at the other two spots. The pro spread offense usually sees three receivers, one tight end and one running back in most formations. Cam Smith, Kyle Watkins and Isaiah Scott are set to start at receiver. Jordan Davis will start at tight end, while the team's top rusher from last season, Ryan Ingram, also returns. At quarterback, Amari Odom won the competition in camp for the starting role, with Bryce Corriston and Pauly Seeley V backing him up.
The defense remains a 3-4 base, with the defensive line led by returners Brandon Maina and Anthonie Lattany. They are joined by O'marion Brown. The linebacker position has three returners from last season. David Powers led the team in tackles in 2023 with 102, while John Boyles and Jalen Marshall also started last season. Nick Morgan steps in to start at one of the outside linebacker positions. In the secondary, Amir Annoor and Isaiah Wadsworth return at cornerback. At safety, transfer C.J. Coombes joins returner Maximus Pulley.
Bridger Jones handles placekicking once again and was 13-of-17 on field goals, along with a 62.0 average on kickoffs. Sam Spence will take over at punter, with Tommy DiLiegro back handling long snapping duties.

TRENDING UPWARD
After the four games of 2024, the Terriers have already matched the win total from last season. The team has scored 71 points compared to 47 in the first four games in 2023, while also giving up 79 points as opposed to 108 last season. Big plays are a part of the success, with 21 plays of 20 or more yards so far, compared to just ten in the first four games in 2023.
