DURHAM, N.C. – The Wofford men's basketball team (1-3) lost to the No. 6 Duke University Blue Devils (3-1) on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium. This was just the third meeting between the teams since 1936.
Wofford was led by two double-digit scorers in
Corey Tripp and
Kyler Filewich. The duo totaled 12 points apiece. Filewich flirted with his third double-double of the season as the big man finished with nine boards while leading the team with four assists.
Kyler Filewich opened the scoring for both squads after netting an easy layup from a
Jackson Sivills pass to take a quick 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils responded with nine unanswered points as the team knocked down three-straight baskets from deep.
Anthony Arrington, Jr. drained a three on the next possession to cut the deficit to four points.
Duke continued to apply heavy pressure on the offensive end, shooting 58 percent (18-31) from the field and 44.4 percent (8-18) from three-point land in the first half. The Terriers struggled on the attacking side, finishing the half 6-for-30 from the field and 2-for-20 from deep. The Blue Devils would head into the break leading 51-14.
The Terriers clamped down on the defensive end, holding Duke to 38.7 percent (12-31) from the field in the second stanza. Both
Kyler Filewich and
Corey Tripp provided a nice spark in the final 20 minutes with the players scoring eight points apiece to close the afternoon.
Wofford will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to compete in the Cream City Challenge on November 22-24. The team will take on St. Thomas, Milwaukee and Portland State before coming back to Spartanburg.
