Men’s Basketball Closes Non-Conference Action with Win Over Kentucky Christian

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's basketball team (6-7) defeated the Kentucky Christian Knights (1-14) 100-55 at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers have now won two-straight games as the team will open Southern Conference play against UNCG on January 1.

"It was really good to see guys be aggressive and make simple plays," said head coach Dwight Perry. "We have to continue to do what has worked well for us in the past. We want to be the harder, tougher, and the more together team. It was good to get back into the swing of things coming off Christmas break."

The Terriers shot 48.7 percent (37-76) en route to their dominant win over Kentucky Christian. The team knocked down 10 three-pointers as well to make the team 4-2 when making at least 10 treys this season. Wofford held KCU to just 38.6 percent (22-57) from the field while giving up eight threes. The Knights converted three shots from the charity stripe on only four attempts. The Terriers tallied 16 makes from the free throw line.

Everyone saw action for the Terriers, with all players scoring and six finishing in double-digits. Jeremy Lorenz led the way with a season-high 20 points along with 16 from Dillon Bailey. Anthony Arrington, Jr. tagged in at 12 points with Cannon Richards scoring a career-high 11. Kahmare Holmes chipped in 11 points as well as Luke Flynn scoring 10.

"On offense it's just being simple and making the right play," said Jeremy Lorenz on the offensive production. "We have a lot of unselfish guys and guys that want to move the ball. We were getting good shots, and our guys were able to knock them down."

Wofford held a firm advantage on the glass, outrebounding Kentucky Christian 53-24, including 24 offensive rebounds – the most this season since grabbing 27 against Erskine. Kyler Filewich paced the team with 15 rebounds, five of which were offensive. Cannon Richards trailed behind with nine rebounds to round out his career day. The heavy paint presence transitioned to points, too, as Wofford outscored KCU 52-26 in the paint.

"Getting after it on the glass is something we preach every game," said Kyler Filewich. "All around everyone made a really good effort on going after rebounds."

The Terriers ended the day with 23 assists on 37 made baskets with Filewich tallying a season-high six assists. Dillon Bailey and Anthony Arrington, Jr. followed behind with four each. Wofford forced 17 Kentucky Christian turnovers that resulted in 10 steals. Kahmare Holmes led the way with a career-high three swipers.

Wofford jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after four points from Kyler Filewich and two from Dillon Bailey, but KCU answered with six quick points as well. The Knights were hot from three early, hitting three deep balls in the first five minutes to keep their deficit within two points.

From there, the Terriers took control after embarking on a 22-4 run to take a 20-point lead with six minutes left in the half. After Kentucky Christian knocked in a pair of baskets, Wofford scored 11 points compared to two by the Knights. The Terriers would head into the break with a 51-28 lead.

The Terriers had a great first half with three players in double-figures. Jeremy Lorenz scored 14 on 6-of-6 shooting while Dillon Bailey scored 13 and Luke Flynn finished the half with 10. As a team, Wofford shot 55.9 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from three in the first frame.

Wofford would hold a firm lead for the remainder of the game, going up by as many as 47 points. The team closed non-conference action with a 100-55 win over Kentucky Christian.
