Spartanburg, SC – Starting her second game in as many days, starting pitcher
Abby Greenwood was unable to get the offensive support necessary to top the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash- dropping the contest 4-0.
Greenwood was nearly untouchable across the first three innings, surrendering a single to the second batter of the game (and then immediately ending the half inning with a 1-6-3 double play) and then nothing until Olivia Ulam reached via an error with two outs in the top of the fourth. Ulam would come around to score the game's first run two batters later on a Savannah Nash double to right center that scored both Ulam and Rachel Marsden and put the Red Flash on top 2-0.
The Terriers' opportunity to answer back came in the sixth inning with runners on second and third with two outs.
Havalynn Abernathy stepped up to the plate but could not connect on either the third or fourth pitch of the at bat and was retired with a swinging strikeout.
Saint Francis tallied two more in the top of the seventh for an added cushion that proved unnecessary as the Terriers were set down in order.
Wofford heads away from Hope Field for its next two matches, taking on in town rival USC Upstate on Wednesday, February 21, and then Presbyterian a week later on February 28. For the latest on all things Wofford softball, make sure to follow the team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
