SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 7-0 win against Radford on Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point and then swept all six singles matches in the victory.
In doubles, Wofford was leading in all three matches when a brief rain shower caused a delay of over an hour. When play resumed, the #1 pairing of
Grace Agster and
Lily Woods claimed a 6-0 win and then the #3 pairing of
Catherine Blouin and
Breda Brennan added a 6-0 win to earn the doubles point. The Highlanders took the #2 position 7-5.
Singles began with a 6-0, 6-3 win for
Chloe Elliott at the #6 position. The Terriers added a 6-2, 6-2 win by
Emely Kahrs at the #4 position and a 7-5, 6-1 win by
Lily Woods at the #3 position clinched the match for Wofford.
Grace Agster lost the first set at the #5 position, but won the second set and then won the tiebreaker 10-5. At the #1 singles position,
Breda Brennan had a 7-5, 6-4 win.
Brianna Wilbur lost the first set at the #2 position before rallying to win the second set 7-5 and the tiebreaker 10-6 to complete the singles sweep.
"I was so proud of the way we competed through all the weather obstacles today," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "We came out strong after the long rain delay and handled the windy conditions well. It was a total team win."
The Terriers, who have now won seven straight matches (7-2) will remain at home when they host Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, February 28. The Highlanders drop to 2-7 on the season.
