Women’s Tennis Rallies For 4-3 Win Over UNCA

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In a highly competitive match on Sunday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team defeated UNC Asheville 4-3 at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Bulldogs won the doubles point, but the Terriers won four of the six singles matches to win the contest.
 
The Bulldogs took the #2 doubles match 6-0. The Wofford pair of Emely Kahrs and Brianna Wilbur was down 2-3 before winning four straight games to take the match 6-3. In the deciding doubles match at the #1 position, Grace Agster and Lily Woods had a 3-0 lead before the Bulldogs took a 5-4 advantage. After Wofford tied the match at 5-5, the Bulldogs won the next two games for a 7-5 win and the overall doubles point.  
 
Wofford took the first point in singles as Emely Kahrs had a 6-3, 6-3 win at the #4 position. The Bulldogs added a win at the #1 position before a 6-5, 7-5 win at the #2 position by Brianna Wilbur tied the overall match at 2-2. The final three matches were decided in three sets. At the #3 position, Lily Woods lost the first set, but won the second set. The Bulldogs took the third set to win the match and take a 3-2 advantage.
 
Catherine Blouin lost the first set 7-5 at the #6 position. She rallied for a 6-4 win in the second set and then won 6-1 in the third set to win the match and tie the overall match at 3-3. The deciding point came down to the #5 position. Grace Agster won the first set 6-4 and lost the second 6-3. In the third set, the Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead before Agster won four straight games for a 6-3 victory that clinched the match for the Terriers.
 
"I am proud of the way we bounced back after losing the doubles point," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We competed so hard in singles and fought until the end. This was a great team win for us."
 
Wofford (9-4, 0-1) will host Quinnipiac on Wednesday, March 13, at 2:30 p.m. in the final non-conference match of the season. UNC Asheville is 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the Big South.
