SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team closed out non-conference play with a 6-1 win over Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point and then took five of the six singles matches to secure the victory.
Doubles began with
Grace Agster and
Lily Woods taking the #1 position 6-1. A win by
Emely Kahrs and
Brianna Wilbur by a 6-2 score at the #3 position clinched the doubles point. At #2 doubles,
Catherine Blouin and
Breda Brennan were down 3-4 before tying the match at 5-5. Wofford took a 6-5 lead, but Quinnipiac tied it at 6-6 and then won the tiebreaker 7-3.
Wofford won the first set in five of the six singles matches.
Lily Woods got the first singles point for the Terriers with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the #3 position.
Emely Kahrs added a 6-4, 6-3 win at the #4 position.
Chloe Elliott started her match at the #6 position down 0-3, but earned a 6-3, 6-1 win to clinch the match for the Terriers.
The Bobcats picked up a point with a 6-4, 6-4 at the #2 position. At the #1 position,
Breda Brennan was down 2-5 in the first set before coming back to tie the set at 6-6. Brennan claimed the tiebreaker 7-5 and then won the second set 6-1. In the lone match to go three sets,
Grace Agster won the first set at the #5 position 6-1 before dropping the second set 3-6. She then took the third set 6-2 to wrap up the match.
Wofford (10-4, 0-1) will travel to Chattanooga on Saturday, March 16, for a 10:00 a.m. match. The next home match for the Terriers will be March 24 against Samford. Quinnipiac is 4-9 overall.
