CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – On Saturday, Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 5-2 win against Chattanooga at the UTC Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point and then took four of the six singles matches.
In doubles, the #1 pairing of
Grace Agster and
Lily Woods picked up a 6-1 win. At the #3 position,
Emely Kahrs and
Brianna Wilbur added a 6-4 win which clinched the doubles point. Chattanooga won at #2 doubles 6-4.
Chattanooga began the singles matches with a straight-set win at the #2 position.
Catherine Blouin earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at the #6 position, but the Mocs tied the overall match at 2-2 with a straight-set win at the #4 position. At #1 singles,
Breda Brennan won the first set 6-1, but lost the second 4-6. She took the third set 6-3 to give Wofford a 3-2 lead in the match.
In the final two matches,
Lily Woods was able to get a 7-5, 6-4 win at the #3 position to secure the victory for Wofford. At #5 singles,
Grace Agster lost the first set 6-7 in a tiebreaker (7-9) and then won the second set 6-3. In the third set, Agster had a 6-3 win to give the Terriers the 4-2 overall win.
"Amazing team effort in today's match," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "We came out with great energy in doubles and carried that momentum into the singles matches. I am so proud of the way we competed today."
It was the first win for Wofford (11-4, 1-1) over Chattanooga (6-7, 1-1) since the 2021 season and the first road win in the series since 2006 for Wofford. The Terriers will remain on the road and play at Furman on Wednesday, March 20. The next home match for Wofford will be March 24 against Samford.
