GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Furman on Wednesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. The Paladins won the doubles point and then took five of the six singles matches for the victory.
In doubles, the Paladins had a pair of 6-1 wins at the #1 and #2 positions to clinch the point. They added a 6-2 win at the #3 position.
After the Paladins picked up a straight set win at #2 singles,
Breda Brennan had a 6-4, 6-3 win at the #1 position. Furman then won at the #4 position in straight sets to take a 3-1 lead in the match. The final three singles matches all went three sets. At #5 singles,
Grace Agster won the second set but lost the third which allowed Furman to clinch the overall match.
Chloe Elliott won the first set 6-3 at the #6 position, but lost the next two sets. At #3 singles,
Lily Woods won the second set before falling in the third set.
Wofford is now 11-5 overall and 1-2 in the Southern Conference. Furman is 6-10 overall and 2-0 in the SoCon. The winner of Wednesday's match was awarded the yearly Pinson Cup by Bobby and Dixie Pinson, beloved friends of both the Furman and Wofford programs. Wofford returns home on Sunday, March 24 for a noon match against Samford.
