SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Lipscomb at the Ensworth Tennis Center. The Bisons, ranked #72 in the nation, clinched the doubles point and then won four of the six singles matches to secure the win.
In doubles, Lipscomb had wins at the #1 and #2 positions to claim the point. The #3 doubles match was unfinished with the Wofford pairing of
Emely Kahrs and
Catherine Blouin trailing 4-5.
Lipscomb opened doubles with straight set wins at the #2 and #6 positions. At #1 singles,
Breda Brennan won the first set 6-3, but lost the final two sets.
Lily Woods earned a point for the Terriers with a 7-5, 6-4 win at the #3 position. After
Emely Kahrs dropped a three-set match at the #4 position that included a third-set tiebreaker,
Grace Agster at the #5 position lost the first set in a tiebreaker before earning 6-4, 6-3 wins for the point.
The loss for the Terriers (8-3) ended an eight-match winning streak. Wofford will open Southern Conference play on Friday, March 8, at East Tennessee State. Lipscomb is now 8-2 on the season.
