Softball Falls in Extras to Presbyterian

Clinton, SC – Four errors and 11 runners left on base proved the difference in Wofford softball's 1-0 eighth inning loss to Presbyterian.

The Terriers managed to get runners on base in seven of the eight innings including starting the game by loading the bases, but were unable to produce the game's first run instead hitting into an inning ending fielder's choice.

Wofford's next best opportunity to score came in the seventh inning, placing runners at first and second with just one out. However, again, Presbyterian forced a foul out and groundout to escape the frame unscathed.

The inability to push any runners across home plate comes after Wofford outscored the competition 18-7 at the Low Country Classic over the weekend. Junior Havalynn Abernathy did garner her fourth multi-hit performance of the season and has back-to-back multi-hit games after recording two hits in the win over College of Charleston.

In the circle, freshman Abby Greenwood continued to string together solid performances. Despite taking the loss, Greenwood spun 7.1 innings of shutout softball before conceding the game winning RBI single to the Blue Hose in the eighth inning. However, because both runners that reached in the inning for Presbyterian came via an error, the run against Greenwood was unearned and her streak of not allowing an earned run extended to 17 consecutive innings across three appearances.

Four errors committed by the Terriers ties a season high with the Rhode Island game on February 17, 2024. Up next for Wofford, a return home for a mid-week game against Winthrop on Wednesday, March 13. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM and can be viewed on ESPN+.
