Spartanburg, SC – Wofford softball dropped its midweek contest against in-state foe Winthrop 11-3 in six innings on Wednesday, March 13.
Freshman
Tayven Stephenson picked up the loss for the Terriers, her first loss of the season, after surrendering five runs through the first two-thirds of the top of the first inning. However, none of the runs surrendered by Stephenson were earned meaning the freshman exited the game with her season ERA lowered to 1.27.
Fellow freshman
Abby Greenwood appeared in relief for Stephenson- guiding the Terriers through the next 2.2 innings and finished her night giving up eight hits, three runs (all earned) and one strikeout. The three earned runs charged to Greenwood represent the most she's been tagged for since allowing three earned runs since February 16, against Northern Kentucky and snapped a streak of 18.2 consecutive innings without a run scored against her.
For the final 2.2 innings of the contest Wofford turned to freshman
Sydney Baker, who was making her collegiate debut. Over the course of her outing, Baker allowed three runs (only one of which was earned) on three hits, walked three batters and struck one out.
Offensively, Wofford had its best inning in the fifth inning scoring two runs on three hits.
Hope Ingle knocked a single up the middle followed by a
Gracie Parker hit by pitch two batters later. Now with two runners on and two outs,
Olivia Lenzen drove in her second RBI of the season with a single into centerfield.
Kaytlin Greenwood followed Lenzen's success at the plate with an RBI single of her own, taking the Winthrop pitcher into left centerfield for her fourth RBI of the season.
