Women’s Tennis Downs Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – On a cold and windy Friday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Western Carolina at the Catamount Athletics Complex. The Terriers took the doubles point and then the teams split the six singles matches to secure the 4-3 Southern Conference win.
 
The Catamounts took the #2 position to begin the doubles matches. At the #3 position, Catherine Blouin and Emely Kahrs were down 1-4 before rallying to win five straight games and earn a 6-4 win. In the deciding doubles match at the #1 position, Grace Agster and Lily Woods were down 0-2 before tying the match at 2-2. It was 4-4 when the Terriers held serve for a 5-4 lead. With the Catamounts serving, Wofford broke and earned a 6-4 win that clinched the doubles point.
 
In singles play, the Terriers won the first set in four of the six matches. The Catamounts earned the first singles point with a straight-set win at the #6 position. Lily Woods claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at the #3 position and Grace Agster added a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win at the #5 position to give Wofford a 3-1 lead in the overall match.  
 
After the Catamounts picked up a win at the #4 position, Breda Brennan took the #1 position by a 6-3, 6-4 score. Brennan's win secured the overall match for the Terriers. In the final match to finish, the Catamounts had a win at the #2 position in three sets.
 
"I am really proud of the way we competed as a team today," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We got down quickly in doubles, but stayed confident in our game plans and fought back which ended up being the difference-maker today."
 
Wofford improves to 13-6 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Conference. The 13 overall wins are tied for the most in school history (2006 and 2019). Western Carolina is 8-13 overall and 0-6 in league play.  
 
Wofford returns home on Sunday, April 7 for the final home match of the season against UNCG.
